Dear Church,

This Sunday and throughout October we will join dozens of other churches in the Houston/Galveston area as we begin a new sermon series called, “God on Race.” Because everyone comes to a topic like this with different experiences and perspectives, I want to lend clarity as to what you should expect.

My goal in preaching is to give all of us regardless of our backgrounds, a theological “stool” of sorts to sit on as we form our thoughts and opinions. Our thinking, action, and discourse as it pertains to race should be formed in accurate Biblical theology. The “stool” has three legs or three sermons I will preach to help us think clearly from the Biblical perspective. Here are the sermons:

1. The Rise and Fall of the Human Race (Gen. 1:26-28, 3:1-7, 5:1-3, and Colossians 3:10-11)
2. The Origin of Race and Religion (Gen. 11)
3. Equally Sinful, Equally Saved (Romans 5:12-21)

My prayer is unity will abound in our church and our community as we consider the issue of race from the Word of God. Many voices are screaming at us about this right now. We should pay most attention to what God says. May we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourself.

You are loved!

Pastor Brian
