SERIES: Certain Future

Week #2 – Certain Death

1 Corinthians 15:21-22

BIG IDEA: Death is not a threat for those who follow Jesus.

MESSAGE PREVIEW

While we may have angst over how we will die, we can be certain that death itself is not a threat for those who follow Jesus. Two truths we need to remember when it comes to death:

  1. God created us for life.
  2. Death cannot separate us from Christ.

ICEBREAKER QUESTIONS:

Begin your session with prayer and use the following questions/discussion to get the conversation started…

Take some time to do a check-up with those in your group. One of the most important things we can do in this season is to care for others.

Q: How are you doing in each of these categories during this season:

  • Physically
  • Emotionally
  • Spiritually

Q: Are there ways that the LifeGroup can be helpful to you?

(*If specific needs are shared, try to go ahead and get volunteers to help and a plan in place for how the group will respond.

Before beginning the discussion of the message, take some time to pray for your group members. Pray for them in these areas of life and for any specific requests mentioned.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Re-read 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 and then use the following questions to guide your discussion.

Q: What is death a consequence of? How much does this consequence (death) effect?

Q: If death is a consequence of sin, what were we originally created for and what does this mean for the future of those who trust Christ?

Q: Why do you think that so many people are afraid of death? How is this fear conquered for those in Christ?

Q:  What truths from the sermon can help us fight against having fear of death? (We can have life beyond death through trust in Christ / Death cannot separate us from Christ / Death will be defeated)

Q: If death is conquered in Christ, is it okay for us to mourn the death of others? Explain your answer. (It IS okay, in fact, we should mourn because death is an enemy to be defeated. However, we mourn with hope (1 Thes. 4:13) because, through faith in Jesus, death is not the end.)

Q: In what ways in this season do we have unique opportunities to talk to others about the hope of the Gospel?

Q: Were there any other takeaways from this Sunday’s message?

Q: What are you going to do in response to this Sunday’s message? How can you apply these truths to your life over the next seven days?

CLOSING RESPONSE:

End your time together praying against fear and thanking God for the victory over death that we have in Christ.
