Q1: What is God?

A: God is “the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in his power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through him and by his will…” (Crossway 2017)

Scripture Reference
Psalm 86:8–10, 15

There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God. . . .
But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. (ESV)

The Vertical Truth in Faith – What does this truth mean in my relationship with God?

In what ways have I placed created things above the Creator?

Job 42:1-6
Then Job answered the Lord and said:
 “I know that you can do all things,
   and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
   things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
 ‘Hear, and I will speak;
   I will question you, and you make it known to me.’
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
   but now my eye sees you;
therefore I despise myself,
   and repent in dust and ashes.” (ESV)

The Horizontal Truth in Love – What does this truth mean in my relationship with humanity?

What value should be placed on our relationships with people?

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (ESV)

Practical Truth in Action – How can I put this truth into action?

Join fellow Disciples of Christ in communicating the glorious nature of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 1:1-4 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” (ESV)
